Did I get the right speedometer gear?
Im getting 4.10's put in my car soon (finally found somebody else to do them) and I have this speedometer correction gear:
Jegs part # 890-881004. (cant link to it). www.jegs.com
Its a 23 tooth gear and it says its for 3.73 and 4.10 gears.
My car is a '92 and it has an AOD with 2.73 gears now,
Did I buy the right gear?

Ok, thanks. I just want to make sure. One of my friends works in a transmission shop and says he can do gears there. He also can install my shift kit.

its as close as your gonna get without swapping the drive gear to a 6 or 7 tooth which is a bitch to do, and a 25 or 27 tooth driven gear wont last...so yea your in good shape, just figure out how far off you are with the particular tires your running...

cant swap drive gears on an AOD.... its machined into the output shaft

thank you, i have argued this b4 til blue in the face.
yes your still gonna be off, and yes you'd have to replace the output shaft to change it
you'll be corrected for 3.55's so figure about 10% off at least.
if your speedo stops working soon, or starts getting noisy, just get another speedo gear, those white 23 tooth gears are from jeeps, and are the wrong pitch for any ford trans. they work for a while though. but will wear out eventually.

Right on the description it says the gear might only last 25k miles. If it lasts that long its fine with me.

so it'll get you closer. besides 2 minutes swap, do it once a year if you have to.
and just for your future reference, i don't know the years, but when you break your aod, if your looking for a new one, some years use a 7 tooth instead of 8 tooth drive gear (i have never seen a 6 tooth for aod , but hear they are out there) anyways, w/ the tranny broke down, swapping out the input shaft is a breeze then you could be right on w/ say a 6t/20t
