trunk lid allign

I'm currently putting a newly painted trunklid on my 89 notch. the old one rusted out. when it is bolted on it is way out of allignment. my service manual says something about shims but thats alot of shims cause its way off. whats the easiest way to allign it? thanks

In what direction is it out of alignment? It may be easier if you remove the latch get it aligned the re install and align the latch.
Install the bolts just snug so you can wiggle the deck lid around and slowly close it and align it at the same time. Get it close and snug the bolts up and check it.
If it is sitting too deep than you may need to shim it.

ive always found it easier to get into the trunk, close the lid with all the botls loose, then have someone line it up nice and straight from the outside.. then tighten everything down

sounds funny, but he's right, thats the best way to do it, so that nothing moves around on ya!
