I know this probably seems like a stupid question to most but WTF is double clutching????
Simon9350, your thread seems to have gotten hijacked. Before trans were syncronyzed if you wanted to downshift to first without coming to a complete stop you had to:

1) push clutch in then shift to neutral then let clutch out

2) then rev up to the speed you think would match first gear at the speed you are going

3) then push clutch in and drop down to first gear

Result: no grinding gears.

Thats double-clutching and it isn't needed with a syncronized tranny.
...unless your synchros are shot. drive your stang for long enough, and sooner or later they will go out. mine were shot when i bought the car, i could not go into 3rd gear without double clutching.
