Default 347 stroker vs. 351w swap...which would be cheaper?

As the topic says . I'm just playing with the idea, not all that serious...yet.

Assume I build the 347 out of my 302, get the $1100 eagle cast kit and pay for all the machining. I Like this idea because I'm utilizing my current engine, but I don't like it becuase my car would be out of service for a while. (It's my DD)

For the 351w assume that I got it out of a junkyard or a used engine on ebay (most likely flat tappet since they're easier to find, $150 at Crazy Ray's), had it bored .030 over and rebuild it myself with a $350 Federal Mogul rebuild kit from Summit. Factor into this the cost of a \cowl hool, accessory brackets, intake and the like. I like this idea because of future expandibility and I can take my time on it.

Which do you all think would be cheaper? Which would be more reasonable?

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the cost factor but I would definitely go with the 351. You don't want your DD to be down and you can take your time on the build. Also, in the future you can stroke the 351 if you want. The 351 just seems like the better choice. Eventually, I plan on putting a 351 in my car and then stroking it.

Personally I believe it would be cheaper and in the long term an advantage to do the 351W swap.

Big decision though

Force - I'd build my own, which would probably end up costing me around $2,000. How was your 351w so cheap? Ebay engine?

It's a tough choice, but I'm leaning toward the 351 cause it will probably end up being cheaper.

BUMP for more feedback!

i got my 351w from a friend for only $800 with a C4 trans..

i'd say go for the 351 because if u want to go faster u can always stroke it out to a 408.

Eh, I'm going to try to stay away from the ebay engines because usually, not saying yours is, they are crappy builds. Probably just going to pull one at a JY.

Vig if you want a 347 kit I can get you a brand new scat kit for $950 w/ srp pistons(10.5:1 w/ 58cc head), forged rods, cast crank, bearings, and rings. A 351 isn't a bad idea either but I would upgrade the pistons while you have it apart but a 351 is going to require a new oil pan, balancer, flywheel, exhaust, intake manifold, etc. Going to cost alot more just to get it running. I believe scat kit is 50oz imbalance so you can reuse your flywheel and balancer. The question is how much power are you looking for, obviously with a 351 you can keep expanding on it to achieve a extremely large amount of hp compared to a 347. A supercharger kit will cost you about the same as a new engine and will yield great hp increases but you won't have a fresh engine. It really depends on what your goals are with the car.
