will a mark 7 axle work in my 89?
 

I am looking into a way to convert to rear disk and a mark 7 rear axle looks to be the same dimentions. It seens like I saw on here about a year ago that someone was talking about the same thing, but I don't remember. let me know out there if anyone has tryed it or done any research.

I would just give a local rear end and diff shop a call to confirm spec's.

actually I am a ford tech. I talked to my parts guy and he did not have any specs on the mount points or lenth. That is what am really trying to find out. What I might end up doing is pulling a mustang 8.8 and putting it next to the mark 7 axle.

you might check with a local salvage yard, they have the cross over manuals that tell them what parts are common to all different makes of cars, can't remember the name of the manual though right now.

I did a little research on the axle size and found that the Mark axle will bolt up but is one inch longer on each side of the pumpkin. This can be compinsated with a wheel that has more negitive offset. This would be usefull information for anyone who is interested in converting the rear drums to 10" vented rear disks with a five lug patern. Find yourself a '94+ master and booster setup, and find yourself stopping much faster.

Yep, the Mark uses the same FOX chassis platform as the Mustang. I seem to recall that a bracket has to be fabricated to connect the drum brake Mustang emergency brake to the disc brake Lincoln. Ford may offer the needed part in the Performance catalog.

Really no need to worry about the Lincoln having a inch wider track, Mustangs have open rear wheel wells so there is nothing the whell would hit if the car is stock height.

But the question is the price. The Mark axle was getting $US500 at street rod swap meets last time I checked.
