RE: posi rear end
Ok lemmie be the first to say fords are called a trak-lok. Posi is an old school term for a gm rear. Even though it's basically the same thing, ppl still wanna bust your ***** about it. I'm not one of them.

All depends on what you want from your car. If you drive on the street much for instance you prolly will not want a Detroit Locker or spool (they make turning either noisey or an adventure). There are many other limited-slip diffs out there each with their own pros & cons, price being one of the major ones. Why do you want something different? Yours not working, running high HP?

RE: posi rear end
If you question is about whether to get a rebuild kit for your rear or a True Trac, I would spend the money and get a True Trac. Sure its more expensive now, but the Ford Trak-Loks are going to wear out, and do it quick. So pay for the labor once and get yourself a True-Trac. I would also like to add that I have a True-Trac and I really like it, it works well.

hmmm...I'd consider a rebuild of your Trak-Lok. But the humming may be bearings and/or gear wear also. If you decide to do this yourself make sure you research it thoroughly a poor set-up can do damage or cause a whine....I'd pull the cover and take a peak to see if I find any shineys first, then check the gear wear pattern and go from there.
