Default 4v 5.0?

Have a question that i have been pondering on... i noticed in somones signiture that they have 5.0 4V stamped on there... what does the 4V mean?

Actually it doesnt mean 4 valve, it has something to do with the factory carb. 2v means 2 venturis (SP) or 2 bbl and the 4V means 4 venturis(SP) or a 4 bbl carb.

Which relates to the number of throttle "valves" there are, a 2 bbl has 2 valves in the carb, a 4 bbl has 4 air valves. It can be confusing though because of the nomenclature used with the Modular engines the older DOHC engines have 4 valves per cylinder and the SOHC engines have 2 valves per cylinder. People have shortened this to 2v & 4v. The newer Mustangs have 3 valves per cylinder and have likewise been shortened to 3v motors. The older engines refer to the # of air valves in the carb.

Hope I didn't confuse you....

Then you have the new 5.0L Cammer engine which is a modular 4.6L that has been stroked and has 4v heads which I think is where people get confused (5.0L 4v).....yea!

5.0's cant have 4 valves because they aren't overhead cam
