Ive got a 1983 Mustang GLX Convertible 5.0</P>


The car is completely original down to the original soft top. A week or so ago the transmission seems to have broken and I only have 1st, 4th and 5th gears. I want to maintain the cars value, and need to know if ford does something like "number matching". I laways see that associated with classic cars, and i want to know if I can replace the trans with a used unit from the same vintage, or if I need to have mine rebuilt/repaired. This is a one owner always garaged car, so ive gotta keep it nice! <IMG src=smileys/smiley1.gif border="0"></P>

the car prolly aint worth a bundle of money...just have the old one rebuilt... you keep the same tranny just new parts in it...

having it rebuilt is definitely an option, but i need to know if Ford uses a serial number system that matches the Engine to the Transmission.

it's not a system, everyone does. hence the numbers matching... the vin is all over the car, or at least on new ones it is, and its at least on that. basically yes the vin is on both engine and tranny
