gt 40 stuff

Well my car is about finished waiting on my BOV for my turbo(will have pics up after monday when BOV should be here ( 347+T76 turbo setup) My father and i wanted to see what kind of budget build we could do to his 93 gt. We are going to a junkyard to see if we can weezle outa there hands some gt-40 heads, intake, and explorer headers really cheap. Now finially for my question, what years did the explorers/mountaineers have the gt 40s in them?

96 and early 97's. I am not sure how to check the numbers on the heads though, I think adder knows how to figure out what heads are what.

any of you guys know a good place to find all the casting #s? i know some have gt40ps and some dont, i think we are just trying to get matching set of everything, then working around the heads/intake, he will get a custom grind b/c i wouldnt let him do any other, and trying to decide on pistons atm.

I'd just go with some aftermarket headers rather than the Explorer ones. I don't think it's worth tossing them on, although ANYTHING is better than stock headers. But if you are really interested, I have a set from a 96 Explorer engine that I just bought. I'll part with them for pratically nothing if you're willing to pay for shipping.

RE: gt 40 stuff

you DO NOT want explorer headers, they are horribly designed to fit in the explorer, they are completely choked down and there is no collector, they just run into each other.

also gt40 is up to 97.5, gt40p after that

gt40 heads will have "GT" stamped above one of the sparkplug holes, gt40ps will have "GTP" above that same plug hole

RE: gt 40 stuff

^^^ I agree. Also, the GT40's will have 3 bars on the end of each head and the P's will have 4 bars. That's the easiest way to tell them apart while they're still on a motor....

...that or the spark plug location.
