Hey got my 331 engine in a couple days ago and after timing it to 11* BTDC, I took it out for a little test drive and under a load, say in higher gears like 4th under light acceleration it kinda clacks. My father tells me it is probley because I need higher octane gas. I have a SRP 10-1 compression pistons, I think I need the higher octane gas, what do you guys think. Will 93 octane gas be enough?

Yea, that sounds like a detonation problem. Try 93 octane, if it still does it you may need to back down the timing to 8* or so

you should definitly be running 93 octane on 10:1 compression, especially if you bump your timing or havent had the car tuned

Yea it just does it under a load. I was told that if I backed of the timing it would be worse.

93 should be enough. I get pinging on 89, 93 got rid of it for me.

93 is a must and get that timing down a bit...detonation will destroy an engine in a hurry. Get it to a tuner asap....you may be leaning out..
