I am trying to build a decent drag car for under 1000 dollars, so Im on a very tight budget. I am trying to do an exhaust on it. I am thinking headers, into mufflers, then dump out on 45's in front of the tires.

Im not sure what to run for a muffler. I want flowmasters, but at 70 or so a piece...I cant do that. I am thinking probably a cheap set of cherry bombs for now. (My class needs mufflers, I would run open otherwise)

For headers, I want it as cheap as possible, but I want them somewhat easy to install also. Ive heard that long tubes are harder than short tubes, and Ive heard that equal lengths are extremely hard to put in.

I was looking at these two on the advanced web site. I was looking there, because I can get 15-20 percent off them there, and cheap is what I need.

What do you think I should look into

Default RE: Headers

As far as my budget, I have put 370 into the car, plus the purchase price.

I have...

New:
Alternator
Battery
Brake Lines
Plugs
Wires
Fan Clutch
Radiator
Hood Pins

Used:
Water Pump
5 Lug Conversion (rear)
Fat rear tires/rims

The car is an 83 GT with a 5.0 bored .60 over, an aftermarket cam, and a holley 4 barrel.

I plan on getting some drag launch springs, reducing some serious weight, doing the exhaust, removing PS/AC, and doing a paintjob (I can do that for REAL cheap)...and I dont really have anything else in my head...any suggestions for cheap power?

Those look great, but are WAY out of my budget range. I have a manual anyways, so I dont think those work on mine right?

I'd say call around on the flows, you should be able to pick em up for cheaper than that. Ask for the 1chamber race mufflers, they are LOUD! As for cherry bombs.....bad, bad, bad idea, those things have like 300% backpressure, theyre more restrictive than factory exhaust. Sound better, but worse flow. You also might wanna call around to some salvage yards, I found 2 sets of 40 series flows at 1 junkyard, got all 4 mufflers for $60. As for headers also, you just have to check around to find a good price, Im almost positive you can find some for around $150, hell even call your local ford dealer and see if they have a set of SVO/FRPP on sale.

No, they will not work on a manual car. Also, SLP is supposedly one of the best flowing catbacks out there. They arent cheap but you should be able to find a good deal out there somewhere if you look hard enough.
