Use 302 Pistons in a 351W with Chevy Rods?
I am researching for an engine build for my 82 5.0 GT. A 302 Stroker? A 351 W? I caught wind of ppl doing this...Using a 302 piston in a 351W block with a chevy piston. Anyone know info on this? Or know of any link? Have you done it? Whats your oppinion?
Thanks

A 351W and 302 are esentially the same, but a 351W has a higher deck height, allowing for more cubes. They both have a 4" bore so switching the pistons really wouldn't do anything.
I have no idea if the Chevy rods would work, but why try? There are plenty of good Ford rods. I guess it's for saying "I have a Chevord."

RE: Use 302 Pistons in a 351W with Chevy Rods?
All good points! The odd request for this topic is : I am researching doing a cheap stroker 351. And it seems that I am not the only one. From what was discussed in the mustang group I am in, is taht there has been talk of doing a stroker engine with these parts. The 302 piston has a shorter skirt that the stock 351 Piston, allowing for the rod to move up and down in its stroke without breaking the skirt off when the side of the rod hits the skirt. Also the 302 piston is lighter and there is less heat created in the cylinder because of less contact. Now the yes..chevy rod that would be used is the coorct length in this combination to make a 351 stroker engine. The chevy stock rod is a stronger rod the shoulders are stronger and the bolt size is bigger. So what happens is a smaller 302 piston is used, smaller skirt, the skirt doest hit the rod. The rod is stronger and is the correct length and no mods have to be done to the crack..all just bolt right in.other than having to press the pin in the only thing that is different in this set up is the bearing on the bottom is just a bit bigger to fit the chevy rod to the crank. All junk yard parts, and inexpensive. For a street car never going above 6000 rpm prduving some nice numbers for next to nothin other tha finding the parts at the pick a part ro junk yard and pressing the pin in. Only prob is..this is all I know.
