RE: 2nd gear gone
it could be a sycro, or the whole tranny could be crap. I wouldnt recommend doing it yourself, I'll rebuild anything, but I wont touch a tranny, too much stuff in there and too many special tools needed. It may be cheaper to get one off ebay, but who knows, may be in worse shape than the one you have. I would either pay to fix that one, get a rebuild from www.astroperformance.com or get a new one

i'm with that guy ^^^ don't rebuilt it yourself expecialy without any experience, it's kinda ofa pain in the ***... but what special tools are you talking about? all you need is a, press(preferably manualy), a roll pin punch and a hammer)
send it to me 100$ labor you pay shipping and parts

RE: 2nd gear gone
warranty? for 100$??? lol thats funny the only warranty you get is if it doesn't work when you get it ei. you install it and one of the gears doesn't work properly or something along those lines, i will not warranty and thing that is caused by abuse or improper break in... and yes that might be specialty tools to some people, you can do it with out the press it just take more effort... this is an introdutory price untill i get some people on this site to back up my work, i have a few others that i have built tranny's for but they are from the local club not on here, i have not heard anything about a tranny having problems other than the detent ball (reverse light sensor) sticking from sitting with out fluid

^what kind of warranty do you get with that $100 labor?
also, a press and a roll pin punch may be a special tool to a guy who has a wrench set and a hammer for a tool box...

RE: 2nd gear gone
and how much is that tranny? 800-900 prolly more? shipping on a small package that weighs 75 lbs is like 30-60$ one way so figure 120 both ways 100 labor that brings you to 220 then parts roughtly 200 if it's just the syncros thats $420 show me a shop that will rebuilt a tranny for less than 500... and they aren't going to warranty it either it you put it in and the beat the hell out of it, trust me i know alot of people that work for a few high performance shops around the counrty no one will warranty a tranny that has the hell beat out of it right away... and yea it you can get a new "beefed up" tranny for 900 thats great but if you believe anyone that says they have beefed up internals in a t-5 then your just ignorant, yes you can do things like different dog teeth to make it engage gear easier (making it handle more power) but the parts are not actualy any stronger... and all you guys that think the World Class T-5 is so week and that you have to swap it one you hit 12.5's or so , do any of you know what the record for the t-5 is? anyone? o and by the way that record will hopefully be broken in about a year or 2 once i have the money to build my motor

RE: 2nd gear gone
but back on topic is it only 2nd gear? what exactly happens when you try to put it in gear grind, just doesn't go etc.... it's most likely a a syncro or a shift fork if it's a shift fork you should have problems with 1st too(not always tho)
