Default Valvetrain Questions

I am getting ready to build 347 stroker. I have some AFR 185s but I bought used and they dont have any roller rockers. Which would be better 1.6 or 1.7s?

I also need to get a new cam. Is there a particular good cam for a reliable, street driven 347 that you guys like? I just want a mild cam that will make good power. I have thought about a custom cam but I am trying to save some money, where possible.

Lastly, I need new pushrods, will the stock length work or do I need a different length depending on cam and rocker?

Thanx guys.

I have no idea on which kind of cam to get, it's all a matter of preference, BUT...

the type of cam you get will determine the roller rocker ratio and the push rod lenth, which will almost certainly NOT be stock, they will have to be measured.

cool. I was thinking they would have to be measured.

Ruger311 could you drive your car everyday if you wanted? I want something that could be a DD, even though it won't be.

yeah i can drive it everyday, no problem got 373RWHP and 427lb-ft TQ and still gets round 18MPG, got 8.5:1 compression going to boost it soon, what i wanted was a DD street/strip car that could put me in the low 11s or break 10s should be able to do that with the blower no problem

yeah, when you get them measured, take the block with the mounted heads to a reputable machine shop, that knows what they are doing.

Some Yahoo measured mine and they are way too long and causing serious wearing to the valve guides.

Ok, roller rockers - 1.72's will give you more overall lift, but its been dyno proven over and over again, that youll make more power throughout the powerband using 1.6's, but you will make more PEAK power with the 1.72's.
As for a cam, it all depends on how you want the car to behave and what you max allowable lift will be. Im thinkin something along the lines of .550 lift 300-310 duration, but definitly check piston to valve clearance before commiting to any one cam. And as for your pushrods, ANY time you alter or replace ANY component of the valve train with aftermarket parts, or even after a valve job, its a good idea to measure pushrod length and adjust as neccessary.
