Default Question regarding lug pattern

So I have been going back and forth on whether or not to do a 5 lug set up on the car and if it is even worth it. I know the main reason is for wheel choices, but I love both the weld racing fat/skinny setup and the 95 cobra replica wheels so that's not a concern really. I could also always do a brake upgrade in front and switch to disc brakes in the rear someday so stopping power I suppose isn't an issue, but what about torque. If i throw nitrous or a supercharger on this one day or put in a 347 stroker do I need to worry about the wheels cracking or breaking under load with only four lugs? I know this is probably a stupid question but I've been looking through the forums for a couple weeks now and can't seem to come to a conclusion. Any help is always appreciated.

you need to be awfully fast to worry about that.

you will break an axle way before you break a wheel. i know plenty of guys in the 10's w/ 4 lug

No you dont have to worry about wheels breaking! If your happy with the wheel selection in the 4-lug pattern, there are plenty of break kits you can get for better stopping power. Bear makes a good 4-wheel disc set up. I guess if you aare going to spend that kind of money you should just go with the five lug though.

just a little fyi...your 4 lug studs (assuming they're OEM) torque to 85foot lbs and, if you get new ones they'll torque to 100 foot pounds. wheel torque that is....the 5 lug wont nessiscarly torque to 100 but, if they're american axels then theres a 95% chance those are the torque specs

people also switch to five lug for the strenght in the axles(so i was told, dont hold me to it), but if thats the case, you can just get a new diff for 31 spline axles, or just get moser 28 splines....both still 4 lug

Cool, thanks for all your help, I'll probably do the Cobra R or ROH Snyper wheel for cruising and drag lights for the strip. I know everyone has'em but I still like them and if wheel selection is the only downfall I figure why spend 2 grand on a good 5 lug kit since I've heard that 5lug 50resto.com kit doesn't work with many wheels because of the front hubs. Thanks again.

No matter what you do get long lugs for all 4 wheels.
Moroso sells a good set of them......
We have bunch of peeps here running 10's on 4 lug wheels.
BTW, any 5 lug set-up will be heavier than a 4 lug set-up.
Think about it, it's rotating wieght.......
