Help with 5th gear? Accerlation stops in 5th
I've got 3.73's and they are awesome 1-4, but if I shift into 5th, even at high rpms, the car just feels like it falls on its face. Why is that and is there anything I can do to change it? Also, if I'm cruising in 5th on the hwy, I feel like I HAVE to shift to pass people, its pathetic.

because 5th is like a .60-something gear ratio
it is the over-drive of your transmission, not designed to accelerate by any means.. |

You need more power.

when the trans is in overdrive torque decreases as RPM increases, so theres just not much acceleration. downshift to forth, let the ricers your passing hear what a real car sounds like!

thats the way it is on all of our cars. Besides nitrous man. Thats good anyway. Highway miles. And you dont hit 5th gear in the quarter mile anyway. Who needs it.

I still have good accel in fifth with my 3.73s. Motor is internally stock. If you max out 4th then go to 5th it lays down? Mine pulls right up to 130 mph or so, that's off the spray too. Maybe you clutch is starting to slip. Do the rpms go up but without your speed increasing? Clutches tend to show trouble in the highest gear at first. The load is the highest there.
