Default About my Rear End

In an earlier post I was talking about needed to have my trac-lock rebuilt and installing some gears... in the end the shoips were quoting me around $820

So I was looking on Summit and found:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku

it dosnt come with axles... but I have those.

After shipping it is $872

Just thought I would share in case anyone else was looking to have this work done, I would gladly pay another $50 to have a brand new one

i always vote the 'do it yourself' on the gears and rearend stuff. saves tons of money for other things. that's a lot of money to still have a trac loc in the end.

well i installed my own gears.. i spent most my time setting the backlash in the end i would have rather just paid for someone else to do it.. but would install a T-loc for cash if i was getting paid..

i reccomend going to the 31 spline axles you might not make the power to make a difference now.. but rather go overboard then have a ticking time bomb

are there any "special tools" needed to install gears and rebuild the traclock? My biggest fear is the rear end whine if its not setup just right

you can get a basic FRPP gear set, install kit, trak lok rebuild kit, fuids for around $450, but if you dont have the tools to install your wasting your money, a fair garage price is $250, you can make a huge project outta this or just order the right parts to fix the 8.8" rear you currently have and be done with it... jmo

I found a complete install kit at 50resto for $259 and a lock rebuild for $44 from summit. So a little over $300 in parts

all the shops around here want $400 labor
