gears again...sorry

ok, looking at some 3.73's for my stang. with my mods listed below, can anyone give me a conservative estamate on how much this will help my quarter mile time. please no wild guesses. with street tires. will worry about slicks later

Depends what gears you have now...

a few .10's if you can get traction as the 3:73 will make traction worse!

I went from 15.0's average ET's in good air to 14.6's in hot and humid air when I changed from the 2.73 to 3.73 gears in my 88 AOD Stang, so I would have to say it will give you .40 or so reduction in ET if you can keep traction. I was on slicks for both the numbers shown by the way.

Hey Roundman,

Aliate said i might have a problem if i go from 2.73 to 3.73 gears with my AOD trans, he mentioned that 1st and 2nd gears might br too short. Do you think I'll be o.k. with 3.73's for street use?

This thing is a dog with the 2.73's as it is now.

thanks,
Tommy

Heck yeah you will be OK with the 3.73's. you can also adjust the TV cable for the tranny to make it shift later so you stay in the gears longer at WOT too! I did both of these and ran mine on the street and raced it with slicks shifting it manually and never had a problem with the tranny at all!

you will gain about a half sec or so and up depending on if you can get traction, I would go with 3.55 though. In my opinion 3.55 are all around the best gear you will get the same kick as 3.73's with the good highend speed from the 3.08. best of both worlds. with 3.55 you will gain about half a sec off your 1/4 mile also.
