timing problems

Default timing problems

I have a 86 that i just put an edelbrock intake on and when i put it all back together the timing is off. well kind of, it timed to 12 right and running like crap, yes i pulled the spout connector and cleared the computer.is it possible to be a tooth off? if so would it still time right? im stuck and need help!!

its possible to be a tooth off and still run, but not very well. probably won't stay running. your using a timing light?

start all over and find #1 tdc...it happens to best of us...

it idles fine but pops if i rev it. its almost driveable but gets hot and has no power

pull dist. find #1 and start over? When i set my dist. do I set it a little bit ahead of the mark on the cap? or right on? I had some one tell me put it ahead, and thats how it's set right now

as close to #1 as it will go, not ahead. make it easy on yourself, get it to TDC with the distributor still in, then pull the cap. then all you gotta do is pull the distributor up a couple inches and re-adjust.
