Default Need some advice

hey guys havent posted in a while but i'm hopefully going to look at another mustang friday and wanted some feedback

89 5.0 LX hatch

ponies
3" cowl induction
cobra spoiler?
gt40 intake

claims

less than 15k on a rebuild
pretty new trans
pretty new cltuch

Not so good

needs new tires
door dings
no headunit
has rear cylinder leak? (brakes maybe? didnt say what the cylinder was, just said wheel cylinder or something?)

so what do you think its worth? what should i look for when looking at the car, i dont have much experience with the 87-93s. what do you think that "rear cylinder" is and how much is it going to cost to fix? thanks for the help guys, looking foward to being a Fox owner.

bad wheel cylinders = scary problem. fix that immediately. you will leak enough fluid to have no brake pedal. a good quick stop and boom, you don't stop. seems like a worthwhile $3k car if the miles aren't too high.

wheel cylinder is what applies your drum brakes in the rear. if its leaking, and it gets on the brake shoes you'll need new ones. if you drive the car with the cylinder leaking it can put hot spots on the drum and youll have to get a new drum.

i'd look at the engine and trans to make sure there arent leaks. check the oil and coolant. make sure neither is off color or milky or chunky, look for rust, look for sub frame damage, i like to check the door hinges to see if they still have the weld or if they have a cotter pin or something in the hinge pin. if its not the weld the doors been removed for whatever reason. drive the car! make sure all the gears engage and dont make strange noises um...thats all i can think of.

drum brakes aren't a good starting point if you don't know how to do it, but you should be able to get away with just removing the top spring inside the drum, that should loosen them enough to get the cylinder out. of course you will have to bleed the system afterwards.

i know this a tough question because it varies, but how much do you think it'll cost me to bring to a shop and get it fixed.

A wheel cylinder should only be about 25 $

The car seems pretty good from what i hear. Whats he askin ? Definatly try to talk him down, point out anything and tell him anything that would take down the value. Check it out for any signs of being in a wreck. Good luck, let us know what you decide.

actually at a shop it'll probably be more like 90 - 150 bucks. an hour of labor is anywhere from 75 to 100 dollars. figure an hour for the cylinder and half to bleed it..plus parts.
