roller block and a none roller??

You cannot use the OEM roller lifters on the 70's block, lifters boss holes are not tall enough for the OEM roller lifters.....need to use the linked roller lifters type.....
I dont follow you on this? please explain, they did have roller lifters didnt they?

yes I know that so insted of the linked lifters I came up with the idea to use 2 of the dog bones welded togeather with the botum one grined off so it wont interfere with the lifters and it seems to work just fine and I also hade to drile new hole for the holdown.

no 1986 and up werre roller lifters. Before had flat tappet hydraulic.

what was different about the 70's blocks? i have my stock roller lifters from my 92motor in a 68 block. the block was orriginally in a cougar but im sure that makes no difference. stock lifters sit fine in there. had the machine shop prep the block for them tho

This is exactly why i said im losing my mind, I agree with you cuz i read it outta a Ford Parts Interchange book, and a Ford Performance book too, like i was saying i didnt think there was a different, and you^ pretty much prove this true

I read through this entire thread and can't tell if you guys are discussing the 302 or 351w.
I know a 70's 351w won't accept factory rollers with a factory cam.
But I'm not too sure on the 302. I thought they were the same throughout production...
