voltage issues
okay...i'm not to good at explaining things so beer with me. i have an underdrive pulley kit on my car, obviously this makes the alternator turn slower, in return produce less amprage. at idel the radio shuts off and the lights dim. i want to bypass the smog pump (remove it) and use a smaller belt. the ac is already gone. my question for all u smart fellows out there is will bypassing the smog pump help turn my alternator? and if so does anyone now the belt size for a 5.0 with underdrive pulleys, no smog and no ac? thanks!!

RE: voltage issues
gonna have to say NO on this one, your alternator will not spin any fast just because you eliminated another pulley your might rev a lil faster due to less strain on the crank from the smog pump but prolly not going to charge any faster, thats the breaks of UD pulleys

RE: voltage issues
just use the regular Alternator pulley, its only a little bigger and will steal maby 0.2 hp. which is worth not worring about it. When i first got my pullies on my old motor i just swapped the 2 water pump and crank shaft pulley's, noticed a nice gain in some power and never had 1 issue with my alternator.

RE: voltage issues
fix the problem with a 130amp 3g alternator, run a string around the pulleys and measure its length go to auto parts store and buy a few belts around that size, return the ones that dont work, jmo
