so the other day i was driving down the highway and noticed i was dangerously low on fuel....i panned on getting of at the next exit to fill up but soon after the check engine light came on and she started to die....i sputtered about 3 more miles to the next exit and barely coasted into the gas station....i filled up the tank and now it runs fine but now i get a whine from the rearend of my car...did i ruin the fuel pump????

yes you are an "idiot" j/k i don't think so it could have but i doubt it unless you have a habit of running around on low fuel... and if it did look at it this way, you get to upgrade it while you have the tank off anyway... i never replace things with stock, except my battery lol

I never run the car when its real low on fuel, the pump get lubricated and cooled by the gas, so running it without fuel or a real low amount could potentialy damage it. But its normal for Ford pumps to whine.

yea i have the same philosiphy....but what is the whinning noise then...its never done that before

you may have damaged it like before, the whinning could be a part that got dryed out from lack of fuel that hasn't been fully lubed yet.... and you was the smart guy/girl that desided we should cool a hot motor with a combustable fluid?? doesn't seem like a smart idea to be. but obviously it works, seems like we should be able to come up with something better

The fuel pump is most likely what whining.

Well if it becomes a problem for me for future reference what should i replace it with?....i plan on doing quite a few mods in the next couple years

well if you have to replace it might as well get a 255 lbs pump, the only other thing i can think of to replace with it would be the gaskets + the gasket for where the filler neck and tank meet... there was a guy on here that had his car torched because of that gasket leaking

yes chances are your fuel pump has a lil damage, if you have to replace go with an Aeromotive 190lph and an AFR.
