Default 7.5 question

Ok, new to mustangs so here is the question. I have a 83 GLX 'vert with the 302 HO and a 7.5 rear with trac. lock. The gears are hwy gears (believe 2.75). I am parting out a 92 LX 4 cyl and was wondering if this is a 7.5 or 8.8? How do you tell the difference? Thanks in advance.

Ok, wanting to put tose gears in my car. I have put a 270 cam in it and BBK headers, X-over and 3 chamber flowmasters. I do not plan on racing it. Will the 7.5 hold up?

The 2.3 uses a 7.5. To tell a 7.5 from and 8.8 just look at the diff cover. The 7.5 has two rounded sides and two flat sides. The 8.8 is a square with rounded corners.
