Wasn't saying it wasn't possible, just not likely. I would guess the dip stick would pop or the PCV before a gasket, but hey, never know..I guess those commonly leak...maybe you had a leak that blew?

I would pull all the plugs and put the cooling system under pressure... look to see if the cooling system will hold pressure. If it does not, crank over the motor with the plugs still out... whichever cylinder the water shoots out of is the one with the blown section of gasket.. I did this on a jaguar when the guy didnt believe me that his headgasket was blown!

And it's confirmed. It was a valve cover gasket that died on me. Although it's a moot point now since Winter is here and the entire top end is coming off anyway. Guess I shoulda actualyl checked more into the problem before instead of just putting the car away for the winter and calling it a day, lol. If it had been summertime, I would have done the compression checks, etc. But since it was time to put it away anyway, I didn't bother until I got to thinking abou tit, then got bored one day and decided to look under the hood more closely.

Thinking about it, the oil on the headers should have given it away. But then again the oil seperator I was running on my PCV line had cracked and spilled oil too. And instead of spending time working on the mustang that was put away, I bought an Explorer 302 and started going to town on that, LoL.

Well at least I know what the problem is now. But I'm still holding off on it until the H/C/I is ready to rock.

now you can replace it and drive it to your friend's shop, so there is some good that comes out of it, as opposed to being a hg
