I don't want to mislead you in ANY way..but I had somewhat the same issues with my one season old walbro 190 pump. Problem is you can't afford (litterally) to jump to conclusions with these cars, you need to follow a slow and painful process of elimination and that can be a HUGE pain especially if the problem is intermittent.

It seems like as soon as I fix something another symptom starts. I JUST fixed my cooling problem and today on the way home after I fill up with gas my car starts pinging in fifth gear on the highway when I give it 1/2 throttle or more. I filled with 93 octane. I got home, timing is at 14.5*. Any ideas? I'm so sick of this bull**** and I'm sick of having an empty checking account becuase of my damn car. I'm starting to regret buying this ****ing ford.

Thanks.

Trying to narrow this down… So your hearing Audible detonation???

I would check for codes and do a self test .Some codes wont show just by pulling them a Koeo or Koer test has to be done . Also when was you fuel filter changes last???? I would do a visual check on all you plugs and wires also

CarJway - no, it's more like the engine is hiccuping. Can't hear it. I'm going to lower my timing and see if it makes a difference. Now that I think about it, my timing is somewhere like 16* rather than the 14.5 I described..I forgot one hash mark is two degrees. Maybe 16* is too high.

Plugs, wires, ignition coil, cap, rotor were all replaced about two months ago.

Well what RPM were you at before you gave it more gas, 5th gear is an overdrive, probly should drop it down to 4th, accelerate then keep it in fifth for a constant speed. Probably why your car was pinging was cause of the excessive load.

This is what I was thinking, the car was probably ~1700 rpm. I could only get it to ping in 5th - 1-4 don't. And as I desrcibe, I had to reset my timing after I did the thermostat and I think it's actually at 16*.
