A hatchback/fastback that wear factory body kits are the GT models from 1987-1993 A coupe/hatchback is an LX model during those same years w/ out the body kit. GT's were all 5.0's, but the LX was an optional 5.0 or 2.3 turbo 4cyl. in earlier years. You can type Mustang 5.0 Hatchback, and or coupe, into just about any search engine and you will be able to see the difference.

coupe: came in lx trim only. 2.3 or 5.0 engine
hatchback: came in both gt and lx trim. lx had 2.3 or 5.0, but the gt only came with the 5.0
coupe has a trunk, hatchback has a HATCH on the BACK.

i've got a 93 lx 4 cyl coupe that i have removed the motor, trans, front k member, wiring harness, and also converted it to a five speed. i love the coupe so much more for racing but i think that the hatches look so much better when they are done right
