The key needs to be on. I thought mine was busted until I read a similar post here.
Kinda stupid really, Id think it would be the other way around so that the trunk wouldnt open when youre driving down the road.

Not working could be a bad switch in the glove box, broken wire, or tired actuator. Check voltage on the switch and then the actuator to see if one is just simply worn out or has a poor connection...both items can be purchased new at www.50resto.com. Mine will work only when the key is in either 'on' or turned to accessory.

The car does not have to be running, but the key does need to be in the on position.

if ur hatch struts are blown the electric button wont do it cus its releasing the hatch but it cant lift itself so it just locks again

mine are blown and someone has to lift it as im pushing the button and the key has to be on or using the battery. accessories i dont think will let it work.
