RE: big cam
thats exactly what i was thinkin i heard of people bending valves and ruinin their pistons because of a cam being to big which brings me to my original question.....whats the biggest cam you can run with a stock motor with minor bolt ons.......and stock heads......

RE: big cam
Though every situation is different I wouldn't want to exceed .540's without spring upgrades..hell I wouldn't even swap cams without adding a fresh set of springs in a car has any significant miles on her (again my opion). But you can't base selection on lift alone..you want to find a cam that will work in conjunction with the parts in the motor...if the intake is stock as are the heads then you need to find a cam that will make power were your current parts are making power....low/ mid range...peaking around 5000. Cams that make power in the top end....won't, simply because your supporting parts won't be able to provide the airflow to make the additional top end power. Stock cam is actaully a really nice pc for stock intake and heads, but if you want to change give the E cam a try seems to be a fairly popular mild performer that won't likely give you clearance issues.

RE: big cam
my selection was .544 but steped the rockers down from the recomened 1.7 to 1.6 (lift changed to .512 IIRC) simply because I was not totally comfortable with the steep ramp rates of the XE cams vs longlevity of my valvetrain...right decision or not, she shounds GRUMPY at idle and compliments the strong points of my supporting components...that IMO is the true intention of an aftermarket cam...to assist in making power with everything else..not inspite of them.

RE: big cam
but i kno for a fact that a 600 lift cam will clear the ptv but i would highly recommend new springs and rr along with obviously pushrods and a newer manifold, and timing chain and gear and it should work

RE: big cam
and i know for a fact that the boner 9000 cam is the biggest in the world, and the lift is 9 billion. go buy it, it has alot of lope, major driveability issues, and absolutly 0 performance gains, espeically on a stock motor. its made by the upstart business "retards anonymous" in cooperation with the well known company "i like to choose cams based on lift while drinking bleach."
