Default Stand Alone Ignition....

Im in the process of putting back together a 86 mustang that had a four cylinder in it, and now has a 302. Im wanting an ignition system that just needs a trigger from the motor and a 12 volt source to make it work. This way I dont have to have all kinds of wires in the engine bay, Its going to be carbureted with a manual choke. Im just wondering if there is such an option available to me.

with my swap i went with a points dizzy and carb intake to make things alot easier with less wiring, other than that it is pretty much a stand alone runs on it's own with no need for a computer

not to sound too dumb but i can't remember what brand it was, all i remember is that it was like $40 bucks at auto-zone(without $30 core charge of course) and it's been giving me no problems, but i was planning on installing a higher output ignition coil, anybody know of good ones that don't break the bank because my bank is small

Go to RockAuto.com. Look up an old mustang (a carbed one with the 302') for parts, and look for distributors. You can get a inexpensive, brand new OEM style one from them. If you have a newer Stang you will have to swap distributor gears with it (or any really). I thought about getting one of those, but I decided to go with an aftermarket performance one.

So with those distributors there, esepcially the Mallory one, do you just hook power to it and it works? Or do you need a Coil also? I want this as simple and clean as possible.

Also Im looking for a water pump pulley, Im not running the fan, so I need the pulley that has an offset that goes back towards the water pump. Im not sure of the year of the motor though...I just cant find any pulleys, its a V-Groove also.

you will need an ignition coil, that is what makes your spark big enough for your spark plugs to work
