i have elderbrock race heads on my 87 hatchback, and 1.72 rockers, with a x303 cam how big can i go , can i go with a z303 cam and still be ok with piston to valve clearence, also this is a drag application car

I assume your using the small valve eddy heads? (1.9/1.6). You're really going to have to clay the heads to confirm if the clearance is going to be there or not. I really don't think going from the X to the Z will offer any great advantage...if you're really wanting to maximize then you need to go custom.

ok question about stock heads then.

i will have them ported by thumper, or some gt40 ported by thumper.


but anywhere how big can you go with stock head,

and how big with stock heads w/ 1.72 rockers

heads are as big a cam as ya want prob...but piston to valve clearence is a issue after a certain lift...go ahead and use clay or playdo to check it...remember,bigger isnt allways better in racing...depends on what ya want,have,need,can aford
