if you really dont like the idea of a flat tappet, you can convert it to accept a hydraulic roller

It's still a small block, just different than the Windsor

yes they can make good power, just not as many aftermarket parts for them is only downside.

SO there is no diffence in the blocks besides the cams? I have a chance to get one before my buddy junks it, I just want to know what I am getting into before I do.
If I remember right...
The 69 block was a shorter deck height, but it wasn't by much.
Most rotating assy. kits will work with both, but it is worth knowing what block you are using before getting the rot. assy.

The blocks did change through 69-74 as rbarn mentioned.

I would post the writeup on my site, but I can't access feewebs from work.

The major concern comes if you want to run off the shelf Hyd. roller 302 cam profiles.
You can convert a non roller 351w block to accept stock 302 hyd roller lifters, if you use a reduced base circle cam.
The reduced base circle cams are not highly acclaimed by Pro engine builders though, as they throw off the geometry between the Lobe and the lifter.

The best way to run a standard base circle cam on a non roller 351w is to utililize the 'link bar' style lifters. These are offered by numerous cam companies, but they are expensive.
