Default help my car is barely running

i was wondering if having low voltage will make my car run poorly? i took my battery up to autozone the other day and they said that it was no good. my wires are a little messed up so it might be a short somewhere screwing things up but i started it yesterday and i had to push start it. when it was running i would press the throttle and i would stall realy badly. no power at all i checked the timing and it was 1 degree towards the left of the engine bay i belive that it is advanced. i am going to install my msd 7al along with a distributor soon and all new wiring and a battery but do you think that might help? also my engine is carbuerated with the bare minimum ( lights ignition and charging system ) so almost like an early model 302. any ideas would help out greatly.

Is your fuel pump electric? Its very possible even if your carb'd that the battery would cause you to run poorly - especially if you battery has a dead cell - then your only putting out 10 volts.

Borrow a battery and find out... it could be the alternator as well. Bogging sounds like fuel. At idel does it run fine?

Alright here goes a long one.. (just like last night.. lol..j.k)
i've had all those problems with my ex-5.0, took a new head job cause the heads werent holding any compression in idle..and a new alt, with a full wire and sparkplug tune up..(and for the record ... THE ALTERNATOR.. if the original one and never been replaced, on a car that old CAN AFFECT THE CAR IN MID GEARS..).. if the alternator is too old... the alternator wont hold a charge and will keep depending on the battery for power also if old it wont be able to take TOO MUCH of a charge forceing it to shut it and the car down when u give it floor it some... also i adjusted the idle..in your case calibrating the idle and air/fuel ratio (i.e leanin it out or fattenin up the fuel delivery)..
email me if u want for more info bro..

low voltage either from a bad battery or alternator will have a negative effect on the modern ignition systems in the cars today. I would take both the alternator and battery back to the part place and have them test both of them and replace both if both are bad, especially since you say you are going to install an MSD system on it soon.
