Default 289 Hi-Po Heads

My brother had our stang out last night and one of his friends said it looked like the car had 289 Hi-Po heads on it? Is there anyway to tell without taking the valve covers off? The heads are blue and the car has a **** load of torque.

Only way to really know is to take off the intake and use a mirror to see the date code on the bottom of the head.

Its on a 93 5.0. Only code I could see on them was a little number 23 on the driver side side in the front lower corner. If you are looking from the drivers side its upside down.

hipo heads are identical to standard 289 heads with the exception of the screw in studs for the rockers instead of the standards pressed in

How did they get 271hp out of a K code then with hipo heads and 210 out of a A code (I think thats a 4bbl) car without the heads.

rmodel65 is right. the hipo's used a solid flat tappet camshaft with better intake and exhaust manifolds with better exhaust. i am pretty sure they used a bigger carb too.

and the standard 289's had a 2v, but they also had the standard motor with a 4v. the had the c code(200hp 2v), a code(225hp 4v) and the k code( 271hp 4v) and also the shelby k code in the gt-350r( 306hp 4v.)
