Default Your opinions on Trick Flow Kit?

Hey guys. I have the 90 5.0GT. After breaking the T5 and going through it with a fine tooth comb to get it back together im ready to do something with my engine. I want to do a rebuild on the motor, and I really want to go stroker with like 347 or something.

I seen a sealed power rebuild kit in the summit book with forged 10.1:1 pistons for the ford 302 for 500-650. I figured the boosted compression would wake up the motor. But then I seen the Trick Flow R top end kit. Heads, intake, valve covers, rockers, lifters, cam, timing chain set, etc. for 2500. I figure theres nothing better than an component matched engine setup.

Now what I'd like to know is, is that kit really worth 2500? And if bolting on a stock refreshed block(stock comp. ratio) what kind of power could I expect? And do those heads raise the compression ratio using stock pistons?

Is it possible to use the sealed power rebuild kit with 10.1:1 forged pistons and the trick flow top end kit? If so what could I expect out of that combination?

Car mods are as listed:

Cobra intake
dual 14' E-fans
160* t-stat
mac shorties
2.5'bbk catless h-pipe
flowmaster 40's turndowns
Zoom street clutch
HD clutch fork
MSD cap&rotor
Taylor 9mm wires
Autolite plugs
MSD coil
K&N filter on some intake pipes(autozone)
got it like that^
3.73 richmond's
richmond locker

Thats it.

hit the research button I know there is like 5-6 threads involving this kit as for your compression level rasing it will do nothing to WAKE it up as it may be worth about 10 horsepower..cam and heads will wake it up

The search button is our friend.

The kit is worth the 2200 (thats what most everyplace sells it for) for someone who doesnt have to know how to put a good combination of the same components together. Because all the components are designed for each other you wont have to worry about the cam not being good for the heads or other compatibilty issues. Opinions on it are back an forth, but almost everyone who has it loves it. Mine is in the shop having the street heat kit installed right now so i cant really tell you yet.

You can probably expect anywhere from 270-300 rwhp. That not to bad since most 5.0s will dyno at 170-200 rwhp. Of course, 270-300 is assuming that you plan on doing all the supporting mods... Its a good kit imo but youll have to decide for yourself.

Depending if the car is street driven I might consider the Street heat kit or the Track heat instead of the R kit.

First, you're talking about a high performance engine here.

I HIGHLY recommend you find a local "race engine" builder
and tell them you want a good strong 347 stroker longblock making 425-450hp
with 10:1 compression and AFR heads and see what they quote you.

There is A LOT to putting together a good package that will work
together smoothly and put out the power it should.

If you just want to have someone put a good short block together for
you and you want to slap heads and cam in.................

www.camshaftinnovations.com can put together a good custom cam and head package
for you that would work perfect and not require new springs.

off the shelf stuff I would go with following parts.

347 short block with 15cc dish pistons
AFR 185's w/ 58cc chambers ( w/ those pistons thats about 9.5:1 c/r )
145lbs seat springs
CompCams XFI 236HR-14 ( Ford stroker roller cam for EFI )
Holley SysMax II intake
Longtube headers

Look to make about the same power as in my sig.
If done properly you can make 350-370rwhp

Well Im not definite on a stroker kit if that's what I really want or not. A few guys that my dad grew up with are the people to talk to around here when it comes to 5.0L stangs. One guy I talked to said about 3grand (mind you this includes heads, cam, pistons, TB, injectors, fuel pump, adj. F.P.R., springs, rocker arms, and pushrods... I can have a 12second capable engine. I didnt ask him for details but his name is Chad, he has a red notch, and works for a machine shop in my area.

I figured if I'm gona drop 3k on an engine I should use a kit that is meant to work together. Mind you I am new to fords. I was raised in a chevy family. My past vehicles were full size trucks with 350vortecs. I did basic rebuilds, ported//shaved heads, converters, gears and whatnot. My last full size long bed with 3.42's was in the 14's.

Im new to the world of ford. I can build an engine, I rebuilt my transmission, installed the gears and the locker. I know Im 18, but I went through 3years of auto technician training. 1 somester was dedicated to hi-performance engine building. Me and my helper built a 383 stroker with vortec heads and a 750 holley. I dont recall specs, and you ford guys prolly dont care but it dynoed at 405hp and 418ft lbs on 87 oct. with 18* of timing and a mild cam.

The car is strictly a weekend thing. I dont drive it every day, and it occasionaly sees the track. I just want to know if the T.F. Rkit and 10.5:1 pistons will work together or will it be too much compression for pump gas (93octane).

I know I need injectors, 255 pump, adj. FRP, and a MSD 6AL box (one in mail), MAF, TB. But what else would I need to make this combo work. Assuming it would be streetable.

10.5:1 is begging for 93. You ran that thing at 18* on 87 w/o pinging? Yikes...

Well it was roughly 18*. But I find a mildly built small block u can run up to 40* using 103mix, and about 30-35* on 93. Maybe we were using 93. The point I was making is that im not a kid that bought a mustang and thinks he knows everything. I do know how to successfully put together a hi-performing engine. But Im new to the world of ford. So I came here for opinions.

18* total timing yes, he thought you put in 18* of base timing, which would be like 40 total.

Now for the kit.........

the "R" kit is too much head and intake for a 302
it's ok for a 347 stroker though.

yes with about $3,000 you can easily turn a stang into a 12sec car.

if I were you I would do a simple rebuild with .03 over bore for 306ci.
www.coasthigh.com has short blocks for $1,500.
with some 195 or 175 Canfield heads and custom cam for camshaftinnovations.com for about $2,000
then get the Holley SysMax II intake for about $500

thats about $4,000 and it will freaking scream, ........... gaurantee mid 12's, maybe low 12's
