no you will have to jack up the motor too. Which could be alot of work. there is also gonna be oil dripping all over the place, even if u drain it. then you would have a lot of cleaning to do after that.

That sludge could destroy your motor if its that bad.. Id go ahead and take it off and clean it all out if its really thick or even get a new oil pan from Canton that holds more oil... the only way to jack the motor up is the oil pan, unless you have an engine lift. It is alot of time involved, but so is taking out the motor anyway because the sludge F'd your motor up. It depends how many miles are on the motor... how bad is it>?

Or like Hot85 said, but Id try BG products if youre going with the flushing it route.

i think it might be better to go ahead and drop it and clean it. would just carb cleaner be ther best? the motor does have 220,000 miles on it and i'm not sure when the last time this was done.

how long of a project would this be? and you said to jack it up on the oil pan? or could i just jack up the frame and take it off? also is there stuff in the way that i have to take off first?

the motors not finished? is it out of the car? If so thats easy to drop. if its in the car before you change the oil go to kragens or some other auto parts store and ask them for somthing to flush out your motor. its somthing you add into the oil, run the car for a certain amount of time and then change the oil. It dessolves all the gunk in the motor cleans up sticky valves and rings. Look for Valvoline "Engine Flush"

You want to drop the oil pan just because the dip stick tube is dirty? Unless the oil pan is leaking, don't drop the pan. Just spray carb cleaner into the tube. But if you want to clean the oil pickup screen; then yeah, that would be a good reason to drop the pan.
