Default RPM's fly up, car goes almost no where

Hey guys. I feel like i've been on this thing with more porblems with my stang than anyone else. anyways...could someone please tell me what they think is wrong with my car. whenever i get on the gas in every gear but 1st, if i hit it hard enough, the RPM's rev way up to like 3500-4000 for a couple seconds, then they gradually come back down and you can feel the car catch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because it's helped with all of my other DOZEN or so problems.

you have a manual I take it. Sounds to me like the clutch is slipping. How many miles since you replace it?

I am having similar probelms but I have an AOD (im guessing you have a t-5). At WOT the car will rev up then catch at the high rpms then come down after it catches (ala neutral drop) not come down and catch like yours. Taking it to the shop this week.....

gear can still slip in a AOD...you just don't have the clutch to slip, could be the torque converter not locking up.

sounds like your clutch there buddy mine did the same thing you hit the gas and it spikes up and then the car finally catches up with itself way to really tell is drive along in 3rd at 2500 punch it with all you got if the rpm's spike and the car goes no where your clutch is shot get yourself a nice centerforce clutch thats what i just got

To me, it sounds like he has an automatic. If so, It's not that the Converter isnt catching, its either your valve body is going bad, or the bands are wore out causing it to slip, it's similar to a clutch slip, because the round bands on an Auto are clutches.

how rediculous of me, i didnt even mention i had a t-5. it must be the clutch because plenty of times i punch it in 2rd, between 2000-2500 RPMS, i.e. going to pass someone, and the RPMS spike really high and come down and catch somewhere around 2500-3000, depending on when i punch it.
