I just bought an 89 5.0. The body and the interior are in great shape but the only problem is the car seems really under powered. It drives good as long as you dont floor it. It has 209,000 miles but I just did a complete tune up on it. It has a cold air intake and a B&M Ratchet shifter. The car just seems very sluggish for a V-8. It wont even make it to red line before it loses power. From a dead stop in first gear it wont even chirp the bald tires that are on it. Any advise will help. Want to get it running good then start putting some mods on it.

97 5.0L

209,000 miles is quite a bit. I would just get the 347 stroker kit and rebuild the engine. But that just depends on how much money you want to sink into it.

What gears are in it? Not that its going to make you feel more power but have you tried SeaFoam... it might help a little bit with the way the motor runs.

Probably just an old, tired engine that's been through a lot. To be honest, it won't cost much to rebuild the engine or even drop a new one in there.

run a compression test if you're really curious. you could do a stock rebuild fairly cheap too

For the 5.0, its not that expensive to get a new running motor for cheap.

LoL No not as we speak But seriously, if you look around there are many people out there who are selling short blocks, etc. OR like suggested above you could get a stock rebuild fairly cheap.

+1. plus i am guessing you have an auto since you said you had ratchet shifter. so a 209,000 mile motor.. and is the trans an unrebuilt original too? if it is then.. well i would say 1 tired motor and 1 tired trans = 1 sluggish 5.0
