5 spd with 3.73's .. tried the search :/
ok im about to get a 87' GT and im debating about gears. i have done a lot of research but still cant make up my mind.. i want the tallest gear i can get, but i do drive the high way 30 mineuts every day.. and i dont want first gear to be nothing..
if anyone had a 5 spd and 3.73's OR 3.55's what RPM are you at in 5th at about 65 mph or so? and how is in town driving with a shorter first gear? any other opinions or comments would be appreciated. so 3.73's or 3.55's?? oh and i searched but didnt really find what i wanted.. |

3.73 are great on the highway

I have 3.55s and at 65mph it's about 2000rpm. First gear isnt too short, you should be okay with either gear. Since you do a lot of highway driving, I'd personally go with the 3.55s

i say go with the 3.55's also. i had 3.73's in my 95 and if i remember right 65 was close to 2500 in 5th gear

Yeah I wouldn't go with anything shorter than 3:55's for a daily driver. What are the stock gears? Aren't they 3:08's?

i went from 2:73's to 3:55's. i love it. never drove a car with 3:73's though.

I'm running 3.55s, and love them. I also went from 2.73s. Before the swap, I drove a convertible with 3.73s, and felt that the gearing was a hair too short.

If I had a factory tranny I would go 3.55's. I have 3.73's with a FMS T5 which has a higher 1st and 5th gear, on the highway at 65 it turns about 6100 with my .63 overdrive
