+1 on the Module
The Temp Sensor is tied to the Module through the R/LB wire coming out of the Module. That would explain your Temp Sensor.
And the 5k thing, also points the problem to your Module...

with my under drive pulies my car starts running rought after a while and the gauged start to jump, but when i revv it it goes away, i put a smaller pullie on the alt to speed it up but it still does it when it idles for too long. kinda pisses me off but o well.
