What year?

I know that my 91 you can turn the needle to increase the spring tension, causing the needle to sweep across the gauges slower. Not sure how on earth you'd get it calibrated perfectly though. Lots of trial and error with the dash pulled apart.
If you put a different speedo gear in you'd throw your odometer off.

i dont care about the odometer, but i know they changed the speedos to 140 in 89 so i was thinking if i just got the gear out of a 89 outta a junk yard then that would solve the prob.

hmmmm....I must have missed something somewhere.....did you change your tranny gears? did you change your gears in your rear? did you purchase larger diameter rims and/or tires that increase your overall diameter?

Food for thought.... if you could write with a marker on your 85mph old speedometer and wrote 90,95,100,105,110,115,120,125,130,135,140......wou ld you have to change your speedo gears? Or is sixty mph on your 85mph speedometer different than sixty mph on you new 140 speedometer if all else remains constant??

Please let me know if I have missed something previously written.

I have an 89 and your right they changed to 140mph midway through production that year. You can get a new speedo gear at http://www.50resto.com just pop it in and your all done.
