Sweet Newbie Post - Help
After some searching here I dont know if it describes my problem. 90 gt vert.
It always had the stall out when at half a tank but only on long drives syndrome. It would run like crap then die, I would usually fill it up and it was fine, again only on long drives 1/4 in town, no prob.. mystery.
The problem now is on short drives it will die.. its an AOD it will restart but then idle like sh*t and die, wait 10 to 15 minutes and I am off until today. Now it happens the same but always after it heats back up again, dies. When its about to die I have to flutter the gas, it may or may not backfire. Its like it wont die if my foots on the pedal, but as soon as I let off after on the highway it dies. This is still intermitant. Some days it will, others it wont.
Sounds electrical.
Its to the point where I cant get anywhere because it keeps happening. is it the TFI?
Offroad H, CAI, Underdrives but all have been on for years. Only one O2 sensor. But again, has always worked just sucks the gas. I did have a shop put on a new ignition harness, and some new wiring after it shorted for some reason.
I am going after the some part of ignition because if its backfiring it must be getting fuel.
Any ideas welcomed. I have a V.W. Bus that sucks up most of my "tinkering" time. My 5.0 has run like a top for over 6 years and NEVER left me stranded! Uhh Im gonna be sick.

Maybe you are getting a vacum in your tank. Does it suck air in when you open the fill cap? Maybe try it with the cap lose.
Ignition moduals, located on the dizzy, will go bad, causing your car to die out when they get warm, and run again when they cool, That could be another issue.

what your describing sounds like your mixing up two different problems, I have seen people drive their cars for hours and once the fuel level gets down to a certain point, the car will stall out. This is caused by a hole in the fuel pump to sending unit hose.
secondly, if your car dies when it gets warm... your TFI module is shot. its cheap and easy to replace and it held to the side of the distributor by two scres and a wire harness

I had the same problem a few months ago with my carbeurated 83 GT. People were telling it was vapor lock, some others said it was a fuel tank pressure problem. I never did really find out what the problem was, but I bought a house recently, and was able to put it in the garage, out of the rain. I'm thinking I was getting water in the tank. The problem went away...for now.
