I know the 5.0 benefits from heads bigtime, not sure about the 4.6

Gears can help or hurt your top end. When you make enough power to redline in 5th, going to a numerically smaller gear may net you a higher top speed (again, if you have the power).

Most cars don't have the power to pull redline in overdrive. By putting a numerically higher ratio in, you can actually gain a few miles per hour. Go too high and you'll start hitting redline at lower speeds.
