Newly purchased 89 LX....?'s about mods...
First Post so bear with me.
The first car I owned was a 84' GT 5.0. I didn't get to mod it all. My later mustangs a 90 and 92 LX's were lightly modified. Today I went and picked up a completely stock 89' LX 5.0. I hadn't had a mustang since 1994. I'm happy to get back to my roots. This car is so cherry, the original ashtray cover is not broken. It has 81k original miles. I'll provide you guys boring pics of my stock stang tonight.
Meanwhile, I'm already planning for mods. I have a $4k budget. I plan to use the car for 3 open track events a year. So my mods are going to be leaning towards handling. The rest of the time, I'll take it out occasionally for street cruises.
I want to know what you guys think about Steeda suspensions? I've looked at Griggs and Maximum but I noticed Steeda has the 5 link for the rear whereas, maximum and griggs have the torque arm. I also made a decision today that I don't want an all out racing suspension. I just want something stiff enough for track yet still streetable for short trips.
As for brakes, I'm going with the Cobra R 4 wheel disc brake conversion kit. What can you guys tell me about that?
Finally, wheels, will 18x9 Ford Racing FR500 fit without rubbing?
Thanks for all your help...
Frank

If the car is that cherry, why not keep it as a DD? Also, that Cobra disc brake kit is going to cost you over a $2k from Ford.

I already have a DD, and then some. I need a track car. I made two mistakes in the past. I modified two different cars that were brand new to meet my needs for track fun. I didn't like the end result. The cars weren't as fun to drive on track or street. The cars were sprung hard for track and uncomfortable for street. Also, a brand new cars price tag is too high to pay if you hit a wall. So pushing to a higher limit of 8/10-10/10ths was not comfortable to do. After watching those MM videos, I really want to strip the car and dedicate it to track use.
AHHHH! Decisions........

Just saying if you only have $4k to spend, do you really want to spend over half your budget on brakes? Believe me though, it I had the money, I would buy that kit too.
