Default About heads?

If you bought a used car and your not sure wut kind of heads are on it.. Is there anywhere you can find out what kind ( by not taking the engine apart lol )by looking up there from under the car? Is there a part number or anything written on it visible to see?

The difference between cast iron and aluminum heads is very obvious. Your best bet is to look at the end of one of the heads...they should be the same, so whichever one you can see more clearly.

E7's (stock)=IIRC they say E7TE on the end...if not, it does say it on top of the head (under the valve cover)

GT40=3 vertical bars on the end

GT40P=4 vertical bars on the end

Aluminum heads=usually say Edelbrock, Trickflow, etc. on the end of the head.

Don't all heads have a casting stamped on them? If not, it would be hard for the manufacturer/factory to organize and identify. I'm sure you'll see this stamped somewhere.

Edit: Check between the recessed area in the middle spark plug gap.

Yeah, but it's usually on the top of the head as if you were looking down at the valves or springs, since a manufacturer would have them on shelves and would be able to see the #'s.
