Does anyone know if the ALT from an 84 GT will work on a 89 GT???

i dont see why it wouldnt as long as voltage is the same and it bolts up the same. im preety sure79-92 are all the same accesorie wise other than some having smog pumps and some not. the reason for that was because the smog pumps were famous for locking up and slinging the belt and causing overheating in an instant. i know my 83 did it atleast twice a year and i finally just bypassed it.

no, the 84 alt has an external regulator that isnt attached to the alt.
you need one from 87-95 (94-95 being a 130 amp 3g)

it wouldnt be a direct swap but you can do it, if you want a direct swap look for one off an 87-93 and i have an alternator if you want it give me $10 + shipping and its urs. i took it off mine, cuz i put an elec fan on, and i went with an 140 amp. it works perfectly fine if you want it.
