Price for Price The 5.0 Wins. Stock for Stock the 2kGT wins. Well since i dont have much money I go for the 88 and make it a monster for less then the price of a 2k. Thats just my opinion but hey...

Ok, the older mustangs run high 14s, no one is really doubting that. But new mustangs dont run high 13s, so where did you get 1 second from? Also, the 86 is about as fast as the 87-93, I don't know why you are sticking with it being faster. It has I believe 25 less horsepower and weighs exactly the same. The newer mustangs make 260 hp, but weigh about 3700 pounds. Compared to the 88 GT's 225 hp and 3100 pounds, the power to weight is almost identical. The newer GT is slightly faster because of its fatter tires and better engineering, but it is by no means a blow out. Maybe a half second faster if the 2000 gets lucky.

But, seeing as how most of us are interested in building a ridiculously fast car for little money, the fox body mustangs are the way to go.

I ran my 89 gt vert once just for giggles it ran 14.66 at 96 only mods are 355's & glasspacks (if that is a mod) & runing 245 55 16's I have raced 99 up gt's sometime I loose simtimes I win just depends on who hooks up better I know givin a long run I will loose everttime but 0-70 or so its a crapshoot all depends on traction.

They feel pretty good 0-70 or so top end it is a big performance loss

i uset to top out in 4th (had the 2:73's) so if I was running a top end race I will pulling in the powerband at 120-140
now 4th hits redline at 125 then the 5th gear shift puts me to far down in the revs & I get crushed

I raced a 300zx (not turbo) 90-96 style pulled good to the 4th 5th shift had 2-3 car lenths then he passed me
shouldnt go that fast anyway. (top was down that doent help )

P.S. Love the lx tails on the gt I did the same thing.
