sputtering 5.0
i was driving my 87 5.0 today to the store...it was fine on the way there but on the way back it was like sputtering and jerking when i got on it...mostly in second gear but a little in first....even when i got on the gas it was all sputtery...it was hardly accelerating....what could be the prob

if its sputtering out around corners, and under hard accel, its more than likely the baffle inside your gas tank has come loose. its not supposed to move around, and when it does, it pushes the fuel away from the pump, and barely keeps any gas near it.

ok so it does it constantly? your original post, you said mostly in first and second gear, so i assumed that meant you were gettin' on it. if it's only sputtering when the car moves hard(accel, corner), its more than likely that baffle. All the baffle is, it's like a 8" round 5" tall piece of sheet metal that the fuel pump gets lowered into, when your car has less than 5 gallons, the baffle holds a good gallon right in itself, thus fuel is never away from the pump.
If the car is sputtering all the time, you have timing or air/fuel ratio problems.
