is dual 2 inch exhaust hurting my engine?
i have an '89 mustang engine in my '83 4x4 ranger and right now i only have dual 2 inch exhaust on it and was just curious if i'm hurting my engine at all? i know that istiny exhaust to runbut that's whatsizethe manifolds are that i'mcurently using.I am tring very hard to get some headers that are 2 1/2 inch but i can't seem to find anything that doesn't cost more than my trucks worth. and i guess i should list my setup.
'89 mustang gt 5.0
stock cam, rings, bearings, heads with exhaust side ported out, roughly 160,000 miles
professional products crosswind intake (copy of an airgap)
600cfm carb with open element K&N filter
1966 289 exhaust manifolds ported to match exhaust gasket and head
glass packs exiting before the passengers side tire.
duraspark w/ msd 6A box
1.7 roller rockers
ford motorsport wires
flex fan
a/c
C4, also tring hard to find an adapter for an AOD that doesn't cost $500+
4.10 gears
31x10.50-15 mud terrians
reg cab short bed with some exterior add on stuff (more weight)
warm idle isat about 15-18hg
timing at 12*
and i get 12-13mpg which i'm not to happy about but if i get an AOD i should be good or at least better. any thoughts?

stock mustang headers won't work. i tried a set 2 days ago even though everyone said they wouldn't fit just to be 100% sure. they stick to far out from the engine and would hit the frame and the drivers side hits the steering shaft. i bought some tri y's off ebay because people with a 2wd ranger said they work perfectly butno one knew if they would fit a 4x4 and they don't. (they go right where the front drive shaft is) but at least i have a good set of headers for my '65 now. Do you guys think manifolds off an explorer would be worth doing? they look very restrictive but supposeedly fit great. i think 3 clinders share the same pipe side. i think my cousin has a set he would sell very cheap.

My friend put a 88 5.0 in his ranger this summer and he ended up getting headers from this place called James Duff Enterprise. They have everything you need to do the conversion the easiest. Google them!

that's where i got my radiator from, very pricey ($345)but i couldn't find anything that didn't involve hacking up the core support. i thought about getting their headers but there's a guy on a ranger sitei go onthat showed a pic of his intalled andhe has a decent sized suspension lift and they lookedkinda close to the ground even with a lift, which i don't have.
