Default nightime interior light problems

ok, you know how when you turn your lights on, the speedometer lights up and so to all the switches??? well, mine wont come on anymore. itsa pain in the *** to drive at night because i have no clue as to how fast i'm going. my aftermarket radio headunit stays on, but its on constantly. does anyone know what i need to do to fix the problem??? itsa 1987

Check the fuse for the i/p and check the dimmer switch.

ok so i checked the fuse, and it was blown. i replaced it, the instrument illumination came back, then the fuse blew like 30 seconds later. what the heck is going on here???

You may want to pull out your stereo and checkthe wires coming from your dimmer switch. People sometimes do funny things with these wires when hooking up aftermarket stereos.

ok i'll check that stuff here in a minute. the thing is, the radio and all has been set up for about 8 months now. and this just now started happening. i'm clueless.

Sounds like you have a short somewhere, but finding it could be a pain in the butt. I wouldn't think it would be related to the radio because the radio didn't blow, only the instrument cluster. You might want to try and find a wiring diagram, (or if someone can post one that would be great) and see what is on that circuit besides the instrument cluster. Whatever you do, don't take the lazy man's route and upgrade the fuse to a higher amperage. This can lead to burning wires and melting harness clips. IMO

u sure u used the right size fuse? using the wrong size fuse will make it blow in a matter of seconds
